On Sunday I got bit by a duck....

I mentioned I was going to volunteer at a wildlife rehab.. on Sunday I started.
Have I mentioned lately that I'm not a big 'bird' fan? As the universe would have it (or a humble start) all they had was birds.

It was funny - the duck bit me - and you'd think I got bit by a shark. Then I realized that it didn't hurt - and that yeah... it was a duck.

47 ducks later - I'd weighed them and returned them to their condo's. Some were a few feathers lighter as I perfected by soon to be pattened 'duck taco' pillow wrap.

I'll go back next week. Maybe there will be something with FUR that needs my help.

So .. you think YOU had a bad day

Stow away found dead in a wheel well.

Help! Adopt a Wolf today

Hey gang - Wolves are in big trouble - Wyoming (my neighbor to the north) has filed a lawsuit against the Fed's to remove (which is a nice way of saying kill) 200 wolves from that state. That's approx 2/3rds of the population!

But Wyoming isn't the only danger zone for our friends. You can help by supporting Defenders of Wildlife and Adopt a wolf!

Please check out this link - and if you can spare $25.00 to help keep this member of our family alive and where they belong - please do so.

A time to heal.

I've always loved critters. I've always loved men who love critters. I fell head over heels for a Vet in florida - sadly, he was lost to me in 1991. Steve Irwin was a precious crush. Just someone who made my world better. A friend fate never chose to allow me to meet in the flesh this life, but who's work none the less inspired me.

In the years since my vet died - I stopped working with critters. It was too close a pain. Something that brought the memories way to fresh. In the early years it was hard enough to keep breathing - never mind do anything that we shared a passion for.

Time heals all wounds. Not true, but it does ease them. And I'm finally ready to head back in. I've started to volunteer at a wildlife rehab here in Colorado. I hope to have pictures soon. Spring will bring in an influx of all thing furry and feathered...so stay tuned.

I do this.. I give this time on behalf of three warriors. Karim, Steve and me. With faith I put one foot in front of the other, trusting that me allowing them to live on in my memory and in my good works will outweigh the sadness that they no longer are here to share in the fun. And the poop.

Black Bobcats!

Isn't he GORGEOUS!

Lately here in Boulder we've had a bobcat walking between our fence and the neighbor's yard. I haven't been lucky enough to see it, but my room mate has. Logan took a good run at the cat - and was pretty worked up for the rest of the day. Course I'm of the camp that thinks we are the invaders - so that cat is welcome. I kind of wish he'd eat the squirrels that are driving Logan nuts!

More info on mutations such as the color of the cat can be found at this great website

Another amusing video -

Everytime someone doesn't read the signage at a zoo I think of this. I'd love to be the bird.

Logan likes snow -

But even he is a little less than in tickled that there is more snow in our forecast - check out the eyes - all squinty like he's saying - huh?
